Biography

Meghan Allen is a Michigan-based dancer and choreographer who grew up training in Rochester Hills, Michigan at Adagio Dance Company. There, she trained primarily in ballet, tap, jazz, contemporary, lyrical, and hip-hop. In addition to studio training, she had the opportunity to travel with the convention, LA Dance Magic, as a member of their Senior Company, where she assisted, trained under, and performed in final shows with the faculty for a year before graduating high school. Finding her passion for dance at a young age, she furthered her studies at Wayne State University, where she is currently completing her B.F.A. in Dance with a minor in Exercise and Sport Science. While there, she has had the honor of performing in choreographic works by Brother(hood) Dance!, Bryan and Shaina Baira, Crystal Frazier, Monique Haley, Wanjiru Kamuyu, Amy Miller, Leah O’Donnell, and several dance faculty members. She has had the pleasure of presenting her work in the departmental December Dance Concert, dancing in her own collaborative work in Wayne State’s 93rd Annual Spring Dance Concert and Detroit Dance City Festival’s Rivera Court and Summer Stage performances, and has performed in many student works throughout her four years. Additionally, Meghan has had the opportunity to be a part of the department’s student-led dance-theatre company, Dance Workshop, where she has held leadership positions including Executive Director and Treasurer. In the company, she also held the role of movement constructionist where she shared choreography in the company’s evening-length show, Eyes on the WatchTower. Furthering her versatility and desire to continue learning and growing, she has had the opportunity to study at various intensives and workshops in Lucca, Italy and New York City. Expanding beyond performing, Meghan is currently working toward her STOTT Pilates Comprehensive Certification where she hopes to share her love of movement with people from all walks of life.
